Loads of Options after 10th standard
What are the main options available in front of a student after he/she completed 10th class? Is this the question that you’ve been trying to find answer for? Here’s the answer –
After completing 10th, a student has access to some notable options. Here they are –
- Continuing Schooling (11th and 12th class/PUC)
- Pursuing ITI courses (Industrial Training Institutes)
- Pursuing Diploma courses (Engineering and Non-Technical)
- Pursuing Paramedical courses (Diploma & Vocational)
- Pursuing vocational courses
- Find a job
These are some of the prominent options available in front of a 10th pass student. According to me, the best idea is to go for 11th and 12th class/PUC schooling.

Continuing Schooling after 10th
This, according to me, is the best option available in front of you. After 10th, you may choose a relevant stream – Arts, Commerce or Science – and enroll for PUC schooling.
This will give shape to your career! After completing 12th class, you may pursue a good professional course. You’ll have access to numerous Bachelor’s Degree courses, Diploma courses as well as Integrated courses.
While choosing this path, make sure that you choose the appropriate stream! There are three notable streams to choose from. Here they are –

Pursuing ITI courses
ITI stands for Industrial Training Institute. ITIs across India are known to offer job oriented training programs. These programs are closely related to trade such as –
- Electrician
- Plumber
- Fitter
- Mechanic
- Computer Operator
- Welder
- And more…
There are numerous trades out there! Some trades are technical in nature. For example – electrician, mechanic, welder etc. Some other trades are non-technical ones. For example – cutting and sewing, painter etc.
10th pass students have access to many ITI courses. Most of these programs are 1-2 years long. The main aim of ITI course is to develop relevant skills in students and help them get employed.
Pursue Diploma (Engineering) courses
After completing 10th standard, a student may secure admission to any of the many Diploma in Engineering programs! These programs are 3 years long (each).
Some of the notable Diploma in Engineering courses are –
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
- Diploma in Civil Engineering
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering
- Diploma in Electronics Engineering
There are many more Diploma in Engineering courses to choose from. As I mentioned before, these programs are 3 years long (each).
After completing Diploma in Engineering course, you may secure admission directly into the second academic year of B.E. or B.Tech. (Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology) course. This is know as Lateral entry.
Diploma in Engineering programs are being offered by many Polytechnic Colleges across India. Both Government as well as Self Financed Polytechnic Colleges exist in India. These colleges can be found across all major districts of a State. Also check – best Technical Diploma courses in India.
Pursue non-technical Diploma courses
Apart from Diploma in Engineering programs, there also exists numerous non-technical Diploma courses in India. Few examples are – Diploma in Data Entry Operator, Diploma in Modern Office Management, Diploma in Secretarial Practice etc.
Duration of these courses could be anywhere between 1-2 years. Many Vocational training institutes and Polytechnic Colleges are known to offer this course.
Though these programs are not as valued as Diploma in Engineering programs, they are useful! These programs help develop relevant skills, skills that can help one get employed!
This is the main reason why many students are keen on pursuing these courses. The Government also understands this fact. That’s why they offer these programs under various Skill Development schemes and missions!
Pursue Paramedical courses
Do you want to build a rewarding career in allied healthcare sector? If yes, paramedical courses will be of help to you! Who is a paramedic, you may ask. A paramedic is an allied healthcare worker, who assists (directly or indirectly) Doctors and Nurses.
While talking about healthcare workers, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Yes, Doctors and Nurses! But the healthcare system is quite vast. It also consists of many supporting roles.
Allied healthcare workers form an integral part of this support system. They are known to assist Doctors and Nurses in treating patients (directly or indirectly). For example, an Emergency Medical Technician (paramedic professional) is responsible for transporting a patient to relevant medical care unit.
Similarly, paramedics operate in various areas within the healthcare industry such as – diagnosis (MLT), operation (OTT), radiography (technician) etc.
In India, paramedical courses are available in these main formats –
- Certificate courses (Vocational training)
- Diploma courses
- Bachelor’s Degree courses
- Master’s Degree courses
After completing 10th standard, a student has access to Certificate and Diploma paramedical courses. According to me, Diploma courses are better! After completing a Diploma program, you may pursue relevant Bachelor’s Degree course.
Pursuing Vocational courses
If you want to acquire skills that can help you get employed, you may go for vocational courses! These courses are training programs with very short duration. The main aim of these programs is to impart relevant skills in students.
Though these programs are not as valued as Diploma courses, they sure can help you get a job! Such programs are being offered by many Government Institutes as well as Private training institutes.
Central and State Governments are also known to introduce Domain Skilling programs and skill-enhancing missions. These programs offer a wide variety of vocational courses that cover disciplines such as –
- Business Skills
- Commerce
- Technical Aspects
- Computer Skills
- Agriculture
- Languages
- Horticulture

Find a job
Finding a job right after 10th is not something that I’d recommend to my readers! See, passing 10th class won’t provide you with good jobs! It will give access to entry level jobs only. There won’t be much scope for growth, when it comes to these jobs!
Still, if you are desperate to find a job, target relevant Government jobs instead of Private sector jobs! Government jobs offer stability, decent salary and job-security! Also check – career guidance after 10th.
Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Police Department, Indian Railways and many more Government agencies are known to recruit 10th pass candidates. The posts allotted to these candidates will be entry level posts!
Still, a Government job is lot better than a Private sector job. While doing Government job, you will be able to enjoy many perks, benefits, decent salary, timely increment in your salary, job security and many more benefits.
