Computer field technician training: Basic Details
As the name suggests, this vocational training program deals with computer technology. This training program falls under the trade of computer hardware/electronics.
Who is a computer field technician? He/she is a computer technician who mostly deals with pre and post sales activities related to computers, laptops and similar devices.
Almost all of us use computers at school or office. What happens if the device runs into a problem? Well, if we can’t solve the problem, we usually call a computer technician. The technician is usually sent by the retail chain/brand that we bought the system from.
The technician visits the site (school, office, home etc), inspects the system, diagnoses the problem and apply troubleshooting techniques. If the problem can’t be solved at the site, he/she will collect the system, label it and take it to the appropriate service center/shop (where it will be repaired).
In short, a computer field technician attends field calls from customers/clients and handles customer complaints. He/she is responsible for identifying the issue, troubleshooting and repairs.
The above mentioned tasks come under post-sales activities. Computer field technicians are also tasked with performing pre-sales activities. For example – after we purchase a computer system, the retail store offers free installation service. The store sends a computer field technician to our home/school/office to install the system.
The technician visits the site, assembles the system, installs relevant software and even educates users (clients) about the system, its uses, parts and safety measures. In order to perform these tasks, a computer field technician must be knowledgeable about areas such as –
- Components of a computer system
