DME Colleges India

DME stands for Diploma in Marine Engineering. It is a pre sea training course for diploma holders. Candidates who have completed diploma program in certain disciplines (discussed in detail ahead) are eligible to pursue this course.

 

DME course lasts for a period of 2 years. After completing the course, one may start job aboard a merchant navy ship. After completing 6 months of sea service aboard the ship, a candidate is eligible to apply for MEO Class 4, Part A examination. Gradually, one may appear for further tests and climb up the career ladder and become a chief engineer some day!

DME admission requirements

Minimum educational qualification requiredCandidate must have completed Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical/Electrical & Electronics/Naval Architecture/Shipbuilding & Repair course from a recognized institute
Minimum marks requiredCandidate must have scored at least 50% marks in the final year of the diploma program. Apart from that, candidate must also have scored at least 50% marks in English subject in 10th or 12th or diploma course.
EyesightCandidate must have eyesight of 6/6 or 6/12 in each eye or 6/9 in the better eye and 6/18 in the other eye. Candidate must not have color-blindness

DME admission process

Selection of candidates is based on merit-based admission process. In the first stage, an aptitude test is carried out to filter out undeserving candidates. The aptitude test consists of topics such as – GK & English. You may also check – Merchant Navy after 10th & GP Rating after 10th.

 

The second stage consists of a panel interview. The third stage consists of physical and medical fitness tests. Final selection is done on the basis of these selection tests and stage-specific tests.
