DME stands for Diploma in Marine Engineering. It is a pre sea training course for diploma holders. Candidates who have completed diploma program in certain disciplines (discussed in detail ahead) are eligible to pursue this course.
DME course lasts for a period of 2 years. After completing the course, one may start job aboard a merchant navy ship. After completing 6 months of sea service aboard the ship, a candidate is eligible to apply for MEO Class 4, Part A examination. DME admission process
Selection of candidates is based on merit-based admission process. In the first stage, an aptitude test is carried out to filter out undeserving candidates. The aptitude test consists of topics such as – GK & English. You may also check – Merchant Navy after 10th & GP Rating after 10th.
The second stage consists of a panel interview. The third stage consists of physical and medical fitness tests. Final selection is done on the basis of these selection tests and stage-specific tests.
