In most Degree Engineering colleges, certain percentages of seats are reserved for Diploma certificate holders. This entry is known as the lateral entry. Diploma holders with good grade may make use of lateral entry and join relevant Bachelor of Engineering/Technology course’s 2nd academic year (directly). This way, Diploma holders may make the ‘DtoD’ switch and earn a Bachelor of Engineering/Technology Degree!
After that, one may go for Master’s education or PG Diploma programs. Relevant M.E./M.Tech., M.Sc. and PG Diploma courses will enable one to specialize in disciplines within Electrical and Electronics sectors.

Career prospects and job opportunities
Government and private sector job opportunities are available in front of electrical and electronics engineers.
Common sectors/industries where they may work are – electrical industry firms, electronics industry firms, power generation and transmission firms (power plants). In such work setups, they may take on a role in areas such as design, product manufacturing, quality control, marketing and R&D.
If you are an entrepreneur at heart and have access to decent financial resources, you may even start own electrical and electronics devices manufacturing firm (small, medium or large scale). After completing Master’s Degree, one may land the job post of a lecturer (at relevant technical education institute).
Starting salary depends on different factors. Prominent factors are- job location, profile of the employer, employee skills and qualification. General starting salary in case of environmental engineers is around 10-25k Rupees per month. In case of Government job, salary will be based on Pay Band and scale.
