There exists three main types of polytechnic colleges in Punjab –

Government polytechnic colleges, as the name suggests, are managed and maintained by the State Government. The Government has a body – the DTE (Directorate of Technical Education) – to take care of all aspects related to these colleges.

 

Expense associated with running Government polytechnic colleges is borne by the Government. Thus, these colleges are able to charge relatively low tuition fees.

 

Aided colleges are not owned by the Government. But these colleges receive Government’s support and financial aid.

 

Private colleges are owned and operated by private trusts, organizations and bodies. They are free to set the fees as per Government norms and guidelines. They are known to charge relatively higher tuition fees.
