There exists three different types of polytechnic colleges in Tamil Nadu – Government, Aided and Private colleges. In this post, I’ve listed down some of the best Government polytechnic colleges in Tamil Nadu.

 

Government Polytechnic Colleges Tamil Nadu

 

Polytechnic colleges in Tamil Nadu offer different types of Diploma courses and vocational training programs. Diploma courses offered by these institutes can be classified into the following main types –

  • Diploma in Engineering courses
  • Non-Technical courses

 

Diploma in Engineering programs revolve around a particular branch of engineering. For example – Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and Diploma in Civil Engineering. These programs last for a period of 3 years. Each academic year is divided into two semesters. Each semester is six months long. Students who have completed 10th class are eligible to pursue these courses.

 

Non-Technical Diploma courses deal with non-technical subjects such as soft skills, management, office skills, arts and entertainment etc. For example – Diploma in Office Automation and Diploma in Management Skills. Course duration could be anywhere between 2-3 years. Students who have completed 10th class are eligible to pursue these courses.

 

Apart from Diploma courses, polytechnic colleges are also known to offer D.Voc. programs. D.Voc. stands for Diploma of Vocation. This training program lasts for a period of 3 years. Students who have completed 10th class are eligible to pursue these courses.

 

There exists three main types of polytechnic colleges in Tamil Nadu –

  • Government polytechnics
  • Aided polytechnics
  • Private polytechnics

 

Government polytechnics are managed and funded by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The DTE, which functions under the Education Department, handles administrative tasks belonging to these colleges.

 

Aided colleges are not entirely owned by the Government. Technically, they are private colleges. But they receive support from the Government. Private colleges are also known as autonomous institutes. They are managed and run by private charitable trusts and organizations.
