Diploma courses can be categorized into different types on the basis of multiple factors. For example, based on the curriculum, these programs can be broadly classified into two types – technical and non-technical diploma courses.

Similarly, based on the purpose of the course (ie skill development or formal diploma education), these courses can be classified into – regular diploma or vocational diploma courses.

1 Diploma in Engineering

This is a technical training program. The course is three years long. Students who have passed 10th class are eligible to apply for Diploma in Engineering admission. After completing this course, candidates may use lateral entry and secure admission into B.E. or B.Tech. program.

2 Non-technical Diploma

Such diploma programs deal with non-technical subjects. Soft skills, office skills, management skills, design, arts – these are some of the popular subjects covered by non-technical diploma programs.

Course duration could be anywhere between two to three years. Students who have passed 10th class are eligible to pursue these programs.

3 D.Voc.

D.Voc. stands for Diploma of Vocation. It is a vocational training program. The course duration is generally three years. Students who have passed 10th class are eligible to apply for D.Voc. admission.

4 Skill Diploma

Technically, it is a diploma program. At its core, the main aim of this course is to develop relevant skills in candidates. So, it can be termed to be a vocational training course. These are short-term training programs. Students who have passed 8th or 10th class are eligible to pursue these programs.

5 Private Institutes Diploma

Some private institutes are known to offer diploma programs that are certified by the institute itself (or some other bodies). For example, Diploma in Beauty and Makeup, Diploma in Digital Marketing, Diploma in Social Media Marketing – these courses are offered by private institutes. The curriculum is generally designed by the institute.
