GATE 2018: Details
Serious and dedicated candidates know almost all basic facts related to GATE. Still, I’m providing the basic details for my readers.
GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. It is an engineering entrance examination.
GATE is conducted each year. A valid score in GATE is necessary to secure admission in Master’s (M.E./M.Tech.), Postgraduate and PhD programs from reputed institutes such as IITs, IISc and NITs.
GATE consists of total 23 papers. A candidate is supposed to appear for only one paper in one attempt. The exam is a Computer Based Test (CBT). You may use the chart provided below to check out GATE papers –
Valid score in GATE will also help candidates avail scholarships from MHRD and Central Government Institutes. In short, if you are planning for higher studies in fields such as – engineering, technology, science and architecture – this exam will be of help to you.
Apart from that, GATE can also help you build your dream career. A job in the core sector in a Government enterprise is a dream that many engineering graduates nourish.
Many well known PSUs (Public Sector Undertaking) recruit engineering graduates through GATE. PSUs use GATE recruitment to fill posts such as – Graduate Engineering Trainee, Grade A Officer, Management Trainee etc (depends upon the recruiting PSU).
Some of the well known PSUs that recruit through GATE are – ONGC, SAIL, BPCL, HPCL, BHEL, Power Grid, HAL, IOCL etc. So, if you are an engineering graduate looking for employment, GATE could be of help to you!

GATE 2018 Online Registration
Online registration starts from 1st September, 2017. The last date for registering online is 5th October, 2017. Candidates may register online using the GOAPS website.
GATE 2018 Admit Card release date
To enter the exam center, a candidate must possess a valid admit card. After registering for GATE 2018, candidates may download the admit card from GOAPS website on 5th January, 2018.
GATE 2018 Online Examination date
As mentioned before, it is a Computer Based Test (CBT). The online examination will be conducted across the exam centers on – 03rd, 04th, 10th and 11th February, 2018. Forenoon session timing – 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Afternoon session timing – 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
GATE 2018 Answer key
The answer key will be released a few weeks after the examination. Candidates may download and use it to calculate their probable GATE score.
GATE 2018 result declaration
GATE results will be declared online. It will be declared on 17th March, 2018.
GATE 2018 Score card
Score card will be made available for download a week after result declaration. This event could happen anywhere between 20th – 25th March, 2018.
GATE 2018 Counseling
Admission counseling sessions are expected to start on 1st or 2nd week of April, 2018 (tentative dates).
