How to become a notary: Step-by-step guide
1 Find a notary training course or state-specific training program that suits your needs
The first and foremost step is to find an ideal notary training course or state-wise notary training program. To become a notary in the US, you must meet the state requirements first.
State requirements may vary from one state to another. Depending upon your state, find out whether any state-wise notary training program exists or not. For example, if you want to become a notary in Illinois, you must complete a three hour notary training program designed by relevant state authority/body/organization. Similarly, if you want to become a notary in Florida, you must pursue a state recognized notary training program.
Depending upon your state, you have two options to choose from –
- Undergo a state-designed notary training program
- Pursue a state-recognized notary training course
Most states recognize courses offered by notary associations & organizations such as – National Notary Association & American Society of Notaries. These societies and organizations are known to offer online notary training courses. You may pursue one such course and thus take the first step towards becoming a notary.
2 Complete the notary training program or notary course
