Students who have completed 2 years long ITI courses are eligible to make ITI to Diploma switch (after they successfully complete ITI training). Read on to know more about the process, admission and application process.
There are two types of ITI courses –
- Engineering trades
- Non-engineering trades
Students who complete 2 years long Engineering ITI trade may then apply for admission into relevant Diploma Engineering program. Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Computer Science etc are some such relevant Diploma Engineering programs.

ITI to Diploma admission process (direct admission into 2nd year)
First of all, a student must have completed 2 years long Engineering trade from a recognized ITI. Candidates must have appeared for All India Trade Test (AITT) and must hold National Trade Certificate (NTC).
Eligible candidates may then take part in the admission process (ITI to Diploma) and secure admission directly into the second year of Diploma course. Typical Diploma in Engineering course is 3 years long. ITI to Diploma candidates will gain direct entry into the second year.
After securing direct entry into the second year, students will have to see off remaining 2 years (4 semesters) of Diploma course. After completing this course, they’ll earn Diploma certificate!
How to secure ITI admission?
ITI to Diploma admission is usually overseen by Technical Education admission committee/board. Names of such committees/boards may vary from one state to another – Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, UP, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Orissa etc.
